One’s ability to decide if and when to start a family is directly tied to overall health and well-being. We are working to ensure that everyone who wants contraception is able to access it, in a method of their choice, regardless of insurance status or ability to pay.
Choose When is an initiative of Caring for Colorado working to bring all contraception methods within financial reach of people throughout Colorado. By providing grants to safety net clinics in Colorado, we can off set the cost of contraceptives for uninsured and underinsured individuals.
Despite tremendous gains in health insurance coverage for Coloradans over the past decade, many people remain uninsured or underinsured. Lack of health insurance, as well as geographic distance to health care in certain communities, results in delayed or no access to essential services.
We hope Colorado becomes a place where policies support access to all contraception methods for everyone, so Colorado families can thrive.
What We are Working On
Health insurance covers contraception costs, but there are still gaps that need to be met for uninsured and underinsured people.
Patients may not be able to afford the contraception that best meets their needs. Health clinics are struggling for resources and unable to provide a full range of options for people due to the costs of some contraception.
We’re trying to fill a gap by providing grant funding to community-based clinics to stock and provide the full range of contraception for their patients to access. We will begin Choose When grantmaking in the summer of 2024, with a focus on safety net clinics in contraception deserts as well as those with large percentages of uninsured and underinsured individuals as their clientele.

Donate Today
We are currently fundraising and have committed a lead gift of $100,000 over two years. All money raised for Choose When will go directly to the community as Caring for Colorado is also donating all administrative support for the initiative.
By supporting access to contraception, you can help someone determine their future. A donation of any amount will help uninsured or underinsured Coloradans meet their reproductive goals. Make your tax-deductible gift today!

The History of Choose When
What began in northwest Colorado as a group of women coming together to help their community, grew into a proven program alleviating contraception barriers for uninsured and underinsured people.
In just five years, they were able to raise over half a million dollars and help more than 500 people.
Clinic Resources
For statewide resources, visit the Colorado Department of Public Health website to find a clinic. You can also find family planning clinics by county.
Initially Choose When provided access to care and contraception, like IUDs and hormonal implants, for women in Northwest Colorado. If you are in this community and need care, visit the Northwest Colorado Health website.
